Hola!
The students from the Puerto Rico Tour had an action-packed week full of many once in a lifetime experiences. For a number of them, this was their first time on a plane and/or first time away from their parents.
The tour started with an afternoon at the beach, with waves higher than they’d ever seen and chance to try surfing and boogie boarding. We had an early wake-up to head out for a 3 mile hike through El Yunque National Forest where the guide pointed out a variety of plants and animals, only native to Puerto Rico. We spent another morning at the Camuy River Caves where water was still visibly dripping to create stalactites. Students were shocked when the guide shined a green light into a hole in the ceiling to see the huge clusters of bats. Our time in San Juan was sunny and enjoyable. Throughout the week, students got to experiment with Puerto Rican cuisine and learned about the history of the country as well as the ecological diversity. While touring the fort in Old San Juan, we also witnessed the firing of a cannon being shot from the fort wall. The tour ended with walking through a couple types of Mangroves, swimming in a Bioluminescent bay after dark, and snorkeling to find many types of coral, colorful fish, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers.
