First tour after COVID was a big hit!!
The students from the Puerto Rico Tour had an action-packed week full of many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. For a number of them, this was their first time on a plane and/or first time away from their parents.
The tour started with an afternoon at the beach, with waves bigger than most beaches in New England and students practiced their body surfing, sand castle building and analyzing seaweed species. We had an early morning at the Camuy River Caves where water is visibly dripping to create stalactites and observed bats re-establishing their habitat after Hurricane Maria. Throughout the week, students got to experiment with Puerto Rican cuisine and learn about the history of the island as well as its ecological diversity. Our time in San Juan was sunny and enjoyable, where we toured El Morro and the old walled city. Our last few days were filled with water activities! We walked through 3 types of Mangroves, swam in a Bioluminescent bay after dark, and snorkeled to find many types of coral, colorful fish, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers.
